Drag Mira into your Applications folder before you open her.
macOS ties permission to see your screen to the exact place an app lives. If she
asks for that permission from your Downloads folder and you move her afterwards,
the permission is lost and she goes silent. If you forget, she will stop and
remind you rather than let that happen.
Getting started
- Move her, then open her. Applications folder first, then double-click.
- Say yes to seeing your screen. macOS asks once. Mira cannot read
anything until you do. She reopens herself afterwards.
- Pick a voice. She reads a line in each so you can hear them. 53 voices
in 9 languages, all already inside her — nothing to download.
- Point her at a window. A game, a chat, a video player, anything with
words on it. She starts reading.
- Press the spacebar any time to have her read the screen again.
She lives in the menu bar at the top of your screen, not in the Dock.
Telling me what went wrong
Open her menu and choose Send a report. It carries her diary of what
she did and why, so I can see the failure instead of guessing at it.
She also reports on her own when she crashes or gets stuck. The words she
reads never leave your Mac — not game text, not chat, not subtitles.
If you would rather send nothing at all, turn it off in Settings, under Privacy.
She keeps herself up to date
Mira checks once a day, tells you out loud when there is a newer one, and
asks before installing anything.
Beta software. Expect rough edges, and thank you for finding
them.
